Paper Towel Choices

Why poor hand washers need better paper

Single-use paper toweling is a critical component in professional handwashing, whether in restaurants, schools, the workplace or hospitals and nursing homes. The choice of drying method and materials is first driven by user habits and the risks resulting from potential failures in the hand cleansing process. Hand hygiene breakdowns are measured by some in illness outbreaks and by others in absenteeism rates.

Hand drying choices

Poorest choice: Any air dryer. Lacks needed friction factor and speed.

Poor choice: Over-cycled paper toweling. Crumbling paper discourages handwashing compliance.

Good & better choices:
For the better and best hand washers, it's all about drying. Choose a paper with high softness and absorbency factors. Handwashing For Life recommends Kleenex Ultrasoft Pop-Up Box.

For the poor and fair washers, it's first about finishing the cleaning. They first need added friction. Then fast drying. Choose a paper based on a combination of friction, absorbency and wet strength. Our recommendation is Kleenex Pop-up Box. This step can often double the effectiveness of the time-compromised wash cycle.

In situations without running water, we recommend the SaniTwice® protocol. Here, the friction factor is an important quality for effective soil and pathogen removal in step #1 of this 2 step method. SaniTwice® is used to boost the effectiveness of hand sanitizer. Here, we again recommend the Kleenex Pop-up Box both for effectiveness and convenience.
